For some, rabbits may just be furry little animals that only appear in minor roles in cartoons like Snow White or Bambi, but Denise Lee proved otherwise when she took first place in the Fancy Bunny Competition held by Nature Lover’s Society of UTAR on the 21st of July.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard about the competition was people dressing up their rabbits as fancy as they can imagine it to be and judges judging them based on their outfits.

However, according to Denise these bunny competitions were first of all judged based on whether or not the rabbits were from a pure bloodline then only they were judged based on their fur, health and outfit.

Denise’s rabbit; Lucy is a 2 kg black and white rabbit with hazelnut brown eyes that melt your heart when it looks at you.

Denise had an ounce of confidence that Lucy was going to win the fancy bunny competition due to the fact that Lucy was a purebred Black Otter Jersey Wooley.

Hearing both her name and Lucy’s name being announced on stage definitely shocked Denise, although she was rather confident on winning the competition. However, she did hesitate when she heard that Lucy had won the contest.

“I was quite hesitant actually as to whether or not it was Lucy and my name that they had mentioned.  Then they called a second time and my friends were pushing me towards the stage,” said Denise.

Denise mentioned that it was her first time entering a competition of such nature. However, when asked if she will let Lucy take part in other similar competitions, she said no.  “It was fun, yes. But I don't think Lucy is suitable for being in competitions,” she added.

Raising a pet is not an easy job. Successful pet owners have to devote time, money, energy and love the pets they own.

Although Denise acknowledged that joining a competition was fun, she does not intend to pursue it because she feels her rabbit is not suitable for joining competitions. This comment most definitely is one that comes from a pet owner who loves her pet.
