KAMPAR – An exhibition on Gandhi, King, Ikeda (GKI): a legacy of Building Peace was held in UTAR by the Student Development Committee recently in conjunction with its 10th year anniversary.
Originally commissioned in 1999 by Dr Lawrence E. Carter Sr. the dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at the Morehouse College in Atlanta, USA, the exhibition has been held in 21 other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, Taiwan and USA.
Three different activities were carried out during the exhibition; the main activity being the display of posters, pictures, stories and quotes of the three peace builders in the Heritage hall.
The second activity, the Peace Proposal Forum was held on 14th June. The third activity, Daisaku Ikeda Animation Series took place on 15th June.
The GKI exhibition appears to be the 5th exhibition UTAR has held this year. According to the vice president of the exhibition, Lee Chuen Yin, the committee took two months to prepare for the exhibition.
According to Lee, all the pictures and posters used for the exhibition were directly mailed from Morehouse College in USA.
“I can say that the exhibition is a success, but we hope for more people.” answered Lee when asked about the turn up for the exhibition and the activities during the three-day event.
“We still have not decided if there will be another same or similar exhibition, but we will try to do so” added Lee.
The committee of the exhibition estimated that anywhere between 800 to 900 people showed up for the exhibition and activities.
